This information-packed download explores the relationship between fighting with stick, knife and empty-hand, with emphasis on how weapon work can enhance and hyper-accelerate empty handed function.
Filmed during our 2018 Fall Continuum Camp, this download employs a spiral learning model, flowing from weapon to empty hand and back to weapon to provide varied repetitions, building layer upon layer to reveal deep insight and ingrain refined reflexes.
We begin with the flinch response and how it applies to striking work. We’ll experiment with primal movement and learn how to adapt hacking and slicing motions to punching and open handed work to build fearsome rapid fire combinations.
From there we’ll explore range control and compression and we’ll study how to enter into or avoid clinches, to maximize the effect of our various weapons at all distances.
Hooking and hacking motions, while high probability gross motor skills, are prone to telegraph intent and be intercepted so we will learn how to conceal motives with deception, faking and trapping.
The goal of this semi private training experience was to explore the consistency throughout the combative spectrum from empty hand to weapons and back again to make every student more confident and capable in their offensive arsenal. Through numerous perspectives, the viewer can expand their combat mental map and movement, build their familiarity with a huge spectrum of combative situations and dominate their fear.
