This 2-volume set addresses the role of common items carried for personal protection. It does not cover improvised weapons, but rather focuses on ready made, purpose-built weapons. Moreover it does not address firearms; while common EDC items in some parts of the world, these items have been previously covered in separate stand alone downloads.
The main focus of this series is:
Pocket knives in volume 1 and aerosol, concussive and flashlights in volume 2.
In volume 2 we will discuss the role and limitations of aerosol weapons, common misconceptions regarding their use, basic deployment, integration with empty handed fighting, range control and basic defense against its use. We will delve deeply into concussive weapons, discussing brass knuckles and related fist loads, yawara, tactical pens, black jacks, saps, as well as less common self defense gadgets, testing them to see which are more hassle than they're worth and verifying what the real effect of these tools are both to the user and the target. Finally we will discuss the role of tactical flashlights, discussing the correct use of low light combatives, essential strategies and cardinal mistakes. A very brief discussion of stun guns is included although this is not a focus of this download.
Whether you are considering the implementation of EDC items for your personal protection or simply seeking to explore and deepen your understanding of potential threats your attacker might brandish, this series is an important consideration for anyone serious about self defense in the modern world.
